Privacy Policy

Privacy policies are usually written to protect companies from readers. This one is written for you, in plain language, because that's the whole point of this site. Last updated October 9, 2026, when we added Google Analytics.

What we collect

Nothing you type in. There is no sign-up box anywhere on this site, no mailing list and no newsletter, so there is no address of yours for us to store and nothing to unsubscribe from. Until September 2026 a sign-up box sat at the foot of these pages; it was never connected to anything, so it sent nothing and stored nothing, and it has been taken out rather than left to suggest a list that never existed.

Analytics

We use two tools to see which pages people read. Cloudflare, the company that delivers this site, counts visits without any cookies and shows us only totals. We also use Google Analytics 4, from Google LLC (Google Ireland Ltd. if you're in Europe).

Google Analytics tells us which pages you looked at, which website sent you here, roughly where you are (your city and country, nothing closer), what kind of device and browser you use, and how long you stayed. It does not record or keep your IP address, and it knows your browser only by a random number, not by your name. We have turned off its advertising features, Google signals and ad personalisation, so nothing it collects is used for ads, and we never sell it. It helps us decide what to write next: if everyone reads the seniors guide and nobody reads a comparison, that tells us something useful.

Here's how you're asked. If your device's clock is set to a European time zone (the EEA, the UK or Switzerland), you'll see a small banner first, and nothing goes to Google unless you click Accept. Everywhere else it's on from the start, and you can turn it off whenever you like. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we treat that as a no. We remember your answer in your browser's local storage (it's labelled analytics-consent), not in a cookie. Changed your mind? Click cookie settings and the banner comes back.

Google explains what it does with this information in its privacy policy, and it offers a free browser add-on that turns Google Analytics off on every website.

What we never do

We do not sell, rent, or trade your data. Not to advertisers, not to “trusted partners,” not to anyone. And there is no list of readers here to sell, because this site never collected one.

Affiliate links

Some links on this site are referral links. If you click one, the builder's website may set a cookie on their end so they know we sent you, and we may earn a commission if you subscribe. That happens on their site, under their privacy policy, not ours. The full story is in our affiliate disclosure.

Cookies

The cookies this site sets for itself are two from Google Analytics, called _ga and _ga_<ID>. They're there only if analytics is allowed, they can last up to two years, and if you say no later they're deleted. There's no wall of toggles here — at most, one small banner with two buttons. If you clear your cookies, nothing about this site breaks; the worst that happens is our visit counter says hello to you twice.

Want to know what we hold about you, or want it deleted? Email [email protected] and we'll sort it out. For almost everyone the answer will be “nothing at all,” because no form here asks for your details. We'll confirm when it's done.

If we ever change how any of this works, we'll update this page and say so plainly at the top. No silent edits.
